Camping and Suvival?

Yes, the goal is to continue the amazing 50+ years tradition of having 7th and 8th graders head out on camping and survival trips! However, we will need significantly more community support in order to make it happen. We will need people who are confident in outdoor safety and are willing to actively supervise students. We aren't just talking about a chaperone like in the past, but a person who will work closely with the lead teacher to plan for student activities and monitor safety. If you're that person, please reach out to the front office and let them know. An administrator will be contacting you as soon as possible.

CAMPING AND SURVIVAL TRIPS

The 7th grade camping and 8th grade survival trips are not only a proud Schoenbar tradition, they are an important part of our community’s culture and a key component of our school curriculum. Participation in the trips will depend upon a student successfully completing the curricular requirements and also demonstrating their ability to behave safely and responsibly.

Because of the unique nature of these trips, student and staff safety must be our top priority.  As such, students are expected to demonstrate a high level of safe and appropriate behavior throughout the school year. Students who are thought to be unable to take instruction or a hazard to themselves or others will not be included on the overnight trip. These students may still be able to participate in day trips. A review of the student’s actions during the school year by the student’s teachers and administration will be used to make any decisions about which trip students can go on.

To be eligible for these trips, a student must be enrolled at Schoenbar for at least 51% of the school day and must take their science and extended learning courses at Schoenbar Middle School.
