When do I get my schedule?

Schedules will be mailed in August.

When do I get my locker?

You will get your locker on the first day of school in your homeroom (1st hour).  The teacher will teach you how to use your combination to open your locker. *One idea is to buy a hanging Wal-Mart lock to practice…you can use the lock for your PE locker!

How am I going to get to school (bus)?

Laidlaw, the bus company that the Ketchikan School District uses, will put a schedule in the Ketchikan Daily News (newspaper) two weeks before school starts explaining the routes to the schools in Ketchikan.

What happens if I forget my locker combination?

If you forget your locker combination, Mrs. Carson (office secretary) will give you your combination.  You will eventually memorize your combination. 

Can we leave campus for lunch?

Schoenbar is a closed campus, which means you cannot leave campus.  The only exception is if your parents write you a note to walk home or go to lunch with your parents.  If you leave campus you must be back BEFORE 5th hour begins.

What if I am late for class?

The SMS student will need a pass from a staff member.

Is there a recess?

After lunch students are able to go to the field and hang out.  This is not a recess but is free time to socialize with friends.

When will I get to see my friends (if I don’t have class with them)?

Students will be able to see their friends in the commons before and after school, passing periods, at lunch, and snack break. SMS has many dances to boogie with friends!

What happens if I get beat up (bullied)?

Schoenbar is a bully free zone!  If you feel like someone is harassing you PLEASE contact any teacher, counselor, secretary, or school administrator for immediate action. 

Bully behavior will NOT be tolerated at SMS!

How long is Passing period and Lunch?

Passing period will last for 4 minutes.  This gives plenty of time to go to your locker and gather your pencils, books, and materials needed for class. 

What happens if I miss school, can I make my assignments up?

Yes, you can make up work.  This needs to be done immediately as many teachers have different time periods to turn make up work in.  Make sure a parent/guardian calls the office 228-7200.

Can we eat in class?

SMS does not allow students to eat in class, but there is snack break for “snacks” and lunch in the middle of the day.

Can I have a cell phone in school?

No, you are not allowed to have cell phones in school.  If a teacher sees the cell phone he/she will take the phone and your parent will have to pick up the cell phone at the office.  The only exception is when you are walking out of the building at the end of the day.

If I am in 7th grade, will I have any classes with 8th graders?

No, all 7th and 8th graders will be in different classes.
